Overview

This article provides explanation of the situation when the config download works but testing the connection to the device fails.

Environment

All NCM versions

Detail

The most common instance of such behavior is when devices (most specific to Cisco) are configured to use SNMP/TFTP for config request/transfer while the script execution option is set to Telnet. When testing connectivity, NCM uses a script execution (CLI) to push a command defined as VERSION (for example, show version) and if the device refuses the Telnet, the test fails. Yet configs are backed up successfully due to fact that correct SNMP Read/Write community is associated with the node.
