Cisco Telepresence/VCS/Tandberg/Codec devices unable to gather complete config

Overview

It is common for NCM to experience difficulties in gathering configs for Tandberg/Cisco video conferencing devices. This is due to the fact that these devices do not utilize the standard command line prompt format of hostname> or hostname#. Instead, these devices only use the phrase "OK" on a new line after a command is entered and the results of that command are displayed in the terminal.

Due to this, NCM is only able to identify the phrase "OK" as the prompt. There will be an issue if the config contains this string (ok) anywhere in the config. NCM will get confused and interpret this as a prompt, prematurely truncating the config.

Environment

  • All NCM versions
  • Tandberg / Cisco Video Conferencing devices

Cause

Since these devices do not utilize a standard prompt and the substitute prompt is a short string (ok), any contents in the config that contains the same string is interpreted as the device prompt which NCM uses to identify when it is done gathering the config.

Resolution

  1. Depending on the NCM version, use the relevant steps to add a template. Refer to the NCM Documentation for more information.
  2. Use the template available on Thwack.
Note: This template only works correctly in NCM v7.4.0 or later because of the introduction of the feature: UseExactPromptMatch.
