A device can be downloaded via NCM (either through jobs or manually) only once. Generally, when SSH is set as the execute script protocol.

All NCM versions

When the username or password prompt is sent, there are occasionaly ASCII characters. For example, ÿýUsername: or Username: ÿúÿð.

These characters are real and although they may not be visible in Putty, they are there. These characters are not properly recognized by NCM that causes the aborted connection.

Upgrade to NCM 7.4 or later, or:

  1. Make a copy of the template being used, such as the Cisco IOS in most cases.
  2. Add the following lines to the copied device template
    <Command Name="CustomUsernamePrompt" Value="Username"/>
    <Command Name="CustomPasswordPrompt" Value="Password"/>
  3. Set the Device Template that was copied so it is not eligible to be selected as Auto Determine.
