Change NCM session trace location

Overview

This article provides information about the change of session trace default location.

In some cases, you may have trouble finding the session trace on default installed directory starting with NCM Version 7.4.

 

Environment

NCM, all supported versions

Detail

Notes:

  • After upgrading the NCM the session trace location and logging is changed to the following location below:
  • This location cannot be changed and its hard coded within the application due to Troubleshooting log collection.

 

NCM 7.3 Session-Trace location 

 

C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM\Session-Trace

To find this, go to Settings > NCM Settings > Advanced Setting.

 

 

 

NCM 7.4 and later- Session-Trace location 

C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Orion\NCM\Session-Trace

To find this, go to Settings > NCM Settings > Advanced Setting.

 

 

 

 

 

Generate session trace logs

 

To enable Session Tracing:

  1. Open the Orion Web Console.
  2. Go to:
    7.6 and older: Settings > All Settings > NCM Settings > Advanced Settings
    7.7 and newer: Settings > All Settings > Product Specific Settings > CLI Settings
  3. Select the Enable Session Tracing check box.
  4. Go to the trace log location:
    7.6 and older: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\NCM\Session-Trace
    7.7 and newer: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\CLI\Session-Trace
  5. Delete the trace files. 
  6. Reproduce the issue for a single device.
  7. Collect the latest session trace logs found in:
    7.6 and older: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\NCM\Session-Trace
    7.7 and newer: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\CLI\Session-Trace

 

To disable Session Tracing:

  1. Open the Orion Web Console.
  2. Go to:
    7.6 and older: Settings > All Settings > NCM Settings > Advanced Settings
    7.7 and newer: Settings > All Settings > Product Specific Settings > CLI Settings
  3. Clear the Enable Session Tracing check box.
  4. Go to the trace log location:
    7.6 and older: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\NCM\Session-Trace
    7.7 and newer: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\CLI\Session-Trace
  5. Delete the trace files.
