Cannot download Running config: Cannot enter Enable Level 0: % invalid command at '^' marker

Updated November 4, 2016

Overview

This article provides steps in resolving the issue when downloading configs from devices managed by NCM because of mismatches with the enable level.

Cannot download Running config: Cannot enter Enable Level 0: % invalid command at '^' marker.

Environment

NCM version 7.5.x

Cause

The network device/s are configured to have no enable login while the connection profile assigned to the device has enable login causing the mismatch. Nexus and Cisco Wireless Lan Controllers would fall into this category.

Resolution

  1. From the Orion Web Console, go to the Node Details page of the NCM node in question.
  2. Under Management section, click Edit Node.
  3. Under NCM Properties > Connection Profile, make sure that Enable Level is set to <No Enable Login>.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. If there is a connection profile assigned to the device, go to Settings > All Settings > NCM Settings > Connection Profiles.
  6. Edit the Connection Profile assigned to the NCM node.
  7. Change Enable Level from enable to <No Enable Login>.
  8. Click Submit.
  9. Download running/startup config again on the NCM node.
