Overview

Where do I install the NTA Flow Storage Database?

Environment

  • NTA 4.x

Detail

You can install the NTA Flow Storage Database:

  • on a remote server (recommended for production environments)
  • on the same server as your NTA 4.x
  • on a VM with in your environment.

Notes:

  • The NTA Flow Storage Database must be installed / upgraded first before upgrading or installing NTA 4.x on your pollers.
  • For production environments, SolarWinds recommends that SolarWinds NPM, MS SQL, Database and NTA Flow Storage Database are hosted on separate servers.

Recommendation: Given the overhead on CPU and Memory that capturing and processing flow data requires, we are strongly recommending that you install the NTA Flow Storage Database on a separate VM or on a separate physical server within your network. Local poller installations are supported but will not see same type of performance increases that can be achieved by running the NTA Flow Storage Database on a dedicated machine.
