Unable to upgrade Netflow Traffic Analyzer on additional poller servers behind the Network Address Translation server

Table of contents

Issue

Unable to upgrade Netflow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) on additional pollers that reside behind the Network Address Translation (NAT) server.

Cause

The additional pollers and databases reside in different networks, hence NTA fails to resolve the IP address of the Flow Storage Database (FSDB) in a NAT setup.

Resolution

Use the system host name to configure the FSDB location in the database. Then configure a NAT rule based on the host name through DNS that would help to resolve to the IP.

  1. Perform the upgrade installation on the primary poller by executing the NTA installer.
  2. Enter the host name instead of the IP address in the SolarWinds NTA Flow Storage Configurator screen.

  3. Verify if the NetFlowGlobalSettings table has the FSDB address as host name instead of the IP address.
    1. Go to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager.
    2. Expand the SolarWinds Orion Database tree.
    3. Locate the NetFlowGlobalSettings table.
    4. Click Execute Query on the right panel to see the table values.
  4. To resolve the IP address, configure the NAT and DNS. Refer to Configuring DNS for more information.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each of the additional pollers if required.
  6. Restart the NTA service on the primary poller.
    1. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. Press Stop/Start on NTA Service.
