Overview

This article describes how to adjust the amount of memory that can be allocated to the Flow Storage (Fastbit) Database.

This article applies NTA 4.2 and earlier. NTA 4.4 and later versions use a SQL Server database to store flow data. For more information, see Databases used by SolarWinds modules.

Environment

NTA 4.2 and earlier (64-bit)

Steps

Warning: SolarWinds strongly recommends that you only edit the ServerConfig.xml file as instructed. Any additional modifications may result in system performance issues or may create an error state.

  1. Open the c:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\NTA\FlowStorage\ServerConfig.xml file in a text editor.
  2. Locate the following line and modify the maximum memory utilization:
<viewBytesMaximum>80%</viewBytesMaximum>

Notes:

  • The default maximum memory utilization is set to 80%. It means that at most, 80% of whole system memory will be used by the FSDB.
  • You can specify the value in MB. For example, <viewBytesMaximum>1024</viewBytesMaximum> means 1GB of the limit.
  1. Restart NTA Flow Storage Service for changes to take effect.
