Netflow charts not showing any internal private addresses

Table of contents

Updated June 10th, 2016

Overview

Netflow Charts are only showing the company's external IP address ( NTA/PAT) and external sites. Internal private IP Addresses are not included in the charts.

Environment

  • All environments and devices can be affected

Steps

  1. Verify the location of the device where Netflow is being collected.
  2. If you are gathering data from the 'outside interface' of the edge router or firewall you will need to change the collection to the 'inside or LAN interface'
  3. Check if a proxy server is being used because proxy servers can run in Explicit or transparent mode.
  4. If running in Explicit mode then there is not much that can be done.  Proper Netflow data can only be collected if it is running in Transparent mode.
