NetFlow v5 and NetFlow v9 for interface index support

Table of contents

Updated June 29, 2017

This article describes the difference between NetFlow v5 and v9 in supporting interface indexes on Nexus devices.

Cisco Nexus allows the use of NetFlow v5 but needs NetFlow v9 for the interface index to work properly.

All NTA versions

NetFlow v5 can only hold 2 bytes of input and output interface fields. The inputint or outputint value should not be more than 65535.

NetFlow v9 can hold 4 bytes of input and output interface fields and can hold up to 4294967295 of inputint or outputint value.

We recommend to configure the device and use Flexible Netflow / Netflow V9 instead of Netflow V5
