NTA view displays error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error when you click on Nodes:

Unexpected Website Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Environment

All NTA versions 

Cause

The error is caused by duplicate entries of Top XX Applications and the Top XX Conversations resources when the older classic resources were not removed when adding new style chart resources.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, remove the classic Top XX NTA resources and re-add the non-classic NTA resources.

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console.
  2. Click Settings > Manages Views.
  3. Select Node Details - Summary and click Copy at the top to back it up before you proceed. This ensures you have a list of original resources. NOTE: Select the view where the error occurs.  If the error appears on a different view, such as NetFlow Interface Details, select that view.
  4. After you make a copy, select the original view and click Edit.
  5. Select the Top XX Applications and the Top XX Conversations resources.
  6. Click X to delete the selected resources.
  7. Click the "+" sign.
  8. Add back the Top XX Applications and the Top XX Conversations resources. Only the new style chart resources should be listed.
  9. Click Preview to check if the Node Details - Summary view is loading properly.
  10. Click Done.
