When you are upgrading your NTA to NTA 4.0 using NTA Flow Storage, you need to decide what you want to do with your old Flow data:

  • Migrate the data - transfer them from the old Orion SQL database to the new NTA Flow Storage.
  • Don't migrate the data but keep them in the original Orion SQL database.
  • Don't migrate and permanently delete the data.

Data Migration

If you want to have access to your historical data in the new NTA, you need to transfer them from the original Orion SQL database to the new NTA Flow Storage. To do so:

Select Migrate historical data from previous installation on the appropriate Configuration Wizard screen.

NTA automatically counts the free space required for the migration. If there isn't enough free space available on your NTA Flow Storage disk, the migration option is disabled.

If there is not enough free space available on your NTA Flow Storage disk and you still want to display your historical data in the new NTA:

  1. Click Cancel on the Database Migration screen to cancel the Configuration Wizard
  2. Add disk space, or move the NTA Flow Storage to a larger disk. For more information, see How to provide more disk-space on NTA Flow Storage drive?
  3. Restart the Configuration Wizard.

Don't Migrate My Historical Data

If you don't need to see your historical Flow data in the new NTA, select the Do not migrate my historical data option in the Configuration Wizard.

You can further decide whether you want the keep the data in the original Orion SQL database or delete them permanently.

  • Select Keep the data in the Orion SQL database to keep them in the original location.
If you decide that you want to view the data in NTA 4.0 later on, try one of the following options:
    • Re-launch the Configuration Wizard, select that you want to configure Database and select that you want to migrate your historical data on the appropriate wizard screen.
      or
    • Locate SolarWinds Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer 4.0 in your Programs folder and click Change. Complete the wizards and select the option to migrate your historical data on the appropriate screen.
  • Select Delete the data from the Orion SQL database to completely delete the historical data.
