NTA Flow Storage Database requires license when upgrading

Updated May 8, 2017

Overview

This article addresses the issue where a license is required to proceed when upgrading the NTA Flow Storage Database (FSDB) server as part of a general NTA upgrade.

Environment

All NTA versions

Cause

This behavior is not by design. The NTA Flow Storage Database does not require a license during upgrade or installation. However, this can occur when a full NTA installation that used to exist on the same server was uninstalled in the past.

Resolution

As a workaround, perform the following:

  1. Follow the steps in Move the NTA Flow Storage Database to migrate all NTA data to a temporary location.
  2. Start with a new NTA FSDB installation on a server image that has not hosted a full NTA installation in the past.
