Local or remote Flow Storage Database service crashes often and stops functioning

Issue:

The local flow storage database service Netflow.exe or remote flow storage database service SolarWinds.Netflow.Fastbit.Server.Servioce.exe crashes often and stops functioning. The error that appears in the logs:

 ERROR SolarWinds.Netflow.FastBit.Server.Service.Program - NetFlowService will be abnormally terminated - UnhandledException was caught : ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.SharpZipBaseException: Unexpected EOF
  at ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.Compression.Streams.InflaterInputBuffer.Fill()

 

Cause:

NTA service constantly writes new files into -update.zip. If the disk space is low, the NTA service cannot complete its writing process and the file is corrupted.

Resolution:

  1. Stop Netflow or Fastbit service  - Starting or Stopping Orion Services.
  2. Click Start > Run > Type CMD, to open the command prompt.
  3. Change directory to C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\NTA\FlowStorage\Data.
  4. Type Dir *update.zip, a list of files will appear on the screen.
  5. Delete the –update.zip file, if its size is 0 KB. 
    Note: Do not delete the _update folder.
  6. Start Netflow or Fastbit service - Starting or Stopping Orion Services.
