You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file

Updated April 11, 2017

Overview

The following error is displayed when manually copying NTA Flow Storage Database folders using the procedure Change the NTA Flow Storage Database location:

You need permission to perform this action.

You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file.

The files that need permission are located in the _tobedeleted folder of the NTA Flow Storage Database path and also occur with .update files.

Environment

NTA 4.0 through 4.2.3

Cause

These permission errors occur if the files or folders are not copied while logged in as a local administrator (a domain account with the Local Administrator role is not always sufficient) or when the services cannot be turned off and the files are in use.

Resolution

Perform any of the following options:

  • Log in as a local administrator when copying files.
  • Back up the NTA Flow Storage Database to a specified path manually by ensuring a valid NTA FSDB backup path using the NTA Flow Storage Configurator, and then manually initiating the NTA Flow Storage Database backup using the Backup Scheduler in the NTA Settings from the Orion Web Console.

Note: SolarWinds recommends that even files in the _tobedeleted folder be successfully copied to reduce the risk of database corruption.
