Unable to see Peer to Peer (Torrent) traffic in NTA

Table of contents

This article provides information about Peer-to-Peer (P2P or torrent) traffic in NTA.

NTA 4.1.2 and earlier

NTA does not show torrent traffic as this traffic cannot be categorized by NetFlow.

Torrents are designed to be difficult to monitor/police. They use random ports and the data comes from many sources. This makes it impossible to categorize without some sort of investigation into the packets.

Later version of NTA include support for NBAR2 which can be used to identify torrent traffic. If your Cisco device provides the information through NBAR2, NTA is able to display it.
