Overview

This article provides steps to move the swap file used by the NTA Flow Storage Database (FSDB) from the default location (C:\Windows\Temp) to a location on a separate drive. The procedure allows the FSDB to take advantage of additional system resources and aid in improving performance.

Environment

NTA version 4.x running on a 64-bit machine

Steps

1. Open C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\NTA\FlowStorage\ServerConfig.xml

2. Locate the following line:

<swapFilesDirectory></swapFilesDirectory>

3. Add a folder location, for example, <swapFilesDirectory>D:\FSDB_SWAP</swapFilesDirectory>

Notes:

  • SolarWinds does not recommend using a swap file on C: drive.
  • You must have enough space as the swap file can expand as large as the Flow Storage Database.

4. Restart the Flow Storage Database service.
