How to collect NTA diagnostics

Overview

This article describes how to collect diagnostics for NTA issues.

Environment

  • NTA 4.x

Steps

After you collect the diagnostics from your Main Polling Engine, Additional Polling Engine (APE), and the server with your NTA Flow Storage Database, send the diagnostics to SolarWinds Support to investigate the issue.

Process for gathering Orion diagnostics on the Main Polling Engine and any Additional Polling Engines experiencing the issue

  1. Click Start > SolarWinds Orion >  Orion Diagnostics.
  2. Click Start and Save Diagnostics.

    This creates a zip file containing logs, events, and information about the database.

Process for gathering NTA Flow Storage diagnostics from the NTA Flow Storage Database server (Only erequired for NTA versions 4.0 to 4.2.3)

  1. Click Start > SolarWinds Orion > NTA Flow Storage Diagnostics.
  2. Click Start and Save Diagnostics.

    This creates a zip file containing logs, events, and information about the database.

Upload the diagnostics to Leapfile

If the files are smaller than 10 MB, attach them to an email or support case. If they are larger than 10 MB, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your browser and navigate to https://solarwinds.leapfile.com.
  2. Click on the Secure Upload link.
  3. In the Recipient Email field, enter support@solarwinds.net.
  4. Enter your name and email address.
  5. In the subject line field, type Attn <agent name> case # <case number>.

    A subject is required to move to the next page.

  6. Click the Select files to send (Regular Upload) link.

    Do not use the Enhanced Upload option, as files take a long time to upload.

  7. Add any instructions to clarify your files for Technical Support.
  8. At the bottom, click Select files to send (Regular Upload).
  9. Attach the files you want to send. 
  10. Include any screenshots that you consider relevant to the case.
  11. At the bottom, click Upload and Send.

    The Leapfile system does not notify your SolarWinds Support Representative that they have files available.  Please send your Support Representative an email to let them know that you uploaded diagnostics files.
