How much bandwidth will NetFlow use to collect data for each monitored interface

Table of contents

Updated: October 25, 2016

Overview

This article provides information on how much bandwidth NetFlow uses to collect data for each monitored interface.

Environment

All NTA versions

Detail

This depends on the number of conversations that are being summarized by NetFlow.
According to Cisco, v9 and v5 exporters will use about 1.5% to 3% of the monitored interfaces bandwidth. The traffic will be proportional to the number of active conversations and the interface bandwidth. It varies on any given interface at any time.

Cisco has tools to estimate FPS and a bandwidth calculator which may help.
