Overview

When using the standard 'High Receive Percent Utilization with Top Talkers' alert, it generates a web page with a login requirement..

Selecting an alternative user does not automatically update the web page macro with the new user details.

Environment

All NTA versions

Steps

Edit the High Receive Percent Utilization with Top Talkers alert:

  1. On the Orion Web Console, go to Settings > Manage Alerts.
  2. Go to the Trigger Action option.
  3. Edit Email a Web Page (High Receive Percent Utilization is ${Interface.InPercentUtil}%).
  4. Under Message, you will see Enter or Paste the Web Page URL and under this is the default web page macro.
  5. The default marco used in the alert is:
    ${SQL:SELECT REPLACE(REPLACE(Macro, '$$Password$$', ''),'$$User$$', 'Admin') FROM NetFlowAlertMacros WHERE ID='InWebMailInterfaceDetailsLink'}
    This is sending the default User as the Admin account with a blank password.
  6. Edit the macro to have the alert sent to a specific user.
    You can update the admin password or replace the user completely
  7. To specify the user, replace Admin with the user required.
    ${SQL:SELECT REPLACE(REPLACE(Macro, '$$Password$$', ''),'$$User$$', 'Admin') FROM NetFlowAlertMacros WHERE ID='InWebMailInterfaceDetailsLink'}
  8. To add a user password, place the password between the quotes in the macro:
    ${SQL:SELECT REPLACE(REPLACE(Macro, '$$Password$$', 'put password here'),'$$User$$', 'Admin') FROM NetFlowAlertMacros WHERE ID='InWebMailInterfaceDetailsLink'}

This should allow the account to be authenticated through to the Orion server to allow the data to be present in the email. However, in the event that the error no longer occurs, but the body of the email is now blank, then follow these steps:

  1. On the Orion Web Console, go to Settings > Manage Alerts.
  2. Go to the Trigger Action option.
  3. Edit Email a Web Page (High Receive Percent Utilization is ${Interface.InPercentUtil}%).
  4. Under Enter or Paste the Web Page URL you will see Optional Web Server Authentication
  5. Select Another user
  6. Enter the same account and password as you entered in the macro above it
  7. Test the account
  8. Save the settings

In some cases the macro password authenticated is stripped out, so the authentication must be in both places to allow it to work.

Note: No Special characters can be in the password or this will fail.
