Failed to execute retention cleanup, Exception: Failed to move file for delete

Overview

In some cases, the retention period set for Netflow data does not function as expected as the flow data is older than the retention period specified. Using the retentioncleanup query through Fastbit Studio fails with the error:

Failed to execute retention cleanup, Exception: Failed to move file for delete

Environment

NTA 4.1 and later

Steps

  1. Log in to your Flow Storage Database server and stop the Solarwinds Netflow Storage service.
  2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\NTA\FlowStorage\Data\Flows and create a new folder on the same drive. This will serve as the new location of the flow data.
  3. Run NTA Flow Storage Configurator and direct the flow data path to the new folder created. 
  4. Go to the old Flows data folder and copy all flow data directories that start with TN#.
    Make sure that only folders older than the retention period specified in the NTA settings are copied.
  5. Start Solarwinds Netflow Storage service.
