FILESTREAM error message displays in Microsoft SQL logging or EMC utility event notifications

Overview

The following error message displays in Microsoft SQL logging or in the EMC utility event notifications:

SQL Server FILESTREAM support is not enabled for this instance. 
Database "SolarWindsFlowStorage" is using FILESTREAM functionality and cannot 
be backed up.

Environment

  • NTA 4.4 and higher

Cause

The FILESTREAM database must be configured with a higher Filestream Access Level.

Detail

Configure the FILESTREAM database with a higher Filestream access level.

  1. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Highlight or open the SQL Server Services.
  3. Right-click the SQL Server service for the appropriate instance and select Properties.
  4. Enable the following options:
    • Enable FILESTREAM for Transact-SQL access

      This option is enabled when you enable FILESTREAMS.

    • Enable FILESTREAM for file I/O streaming access
    • Allow remote client to have streaming access to FILESTREAM data
  5. Open the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  6. Right-click the SQL instance using the Object Explorer and select Properties.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. In Filestream, change the Filestream Access Level selection to Full access enabled.

Your backups should now continue as expected.
