Issue:

The Netflow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) Configuration Wizard fails with the error:

Exception while configuring plugin NetFlow Traffic Analyzer component NetFlow Website. Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 181, position 55.

Cause:

Netflow could not parse the webconfig.xml file as it contains a double quote in a different format.

Resolution:

  1. Open the file C:\Inetpub\SolarWinds\webconfig.xml using Notepad, Visual Studio or any other text editor.
  2. Locate the line <forms loginurl="~/Orion/Login.aspx" requiressl="”true”"/>
  3. Replace the slant quotes with straight quotes:
    • requireSSL=”true” and should be requireSSL="true" />
  4. Verify if the Configuration Wizard completes without any error - Running Configuration Wizard.

Applies to:  NTA v4.0
