Overview

This article describes the issue when after upgrading from NTA version 3.11 to 4+ on a 64-bit system, the Flow Data is unable to migrate from the SQL Database to the new Flow Storage. It also displays the following error:

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Common.SWEventLogging - Unhandled exception - Disk free space information [Temp - [C:] - xxxxxxxxxxxx bytes free, DB - [C:] - xxxxxxxxxxxx bytes free] : Exception 'SqlException' while resolving string IDs: Invalid object name 'NetFlowFastBitStringHeap'.

Environment

NTA version 4 +

Cause

This issue occurs when the Configuration Wizard tables required by Netflow are not created. This means that Data cannot be created and also that new Flows cannot be stored

Resolution

  1. Check if the Polling Engine is valid and reporting in the Web Console via Settings > Polling Engines.
  2. Open the Database Manager on the Orion server.
  3. Check if the table NetFlowFastBitStringHeap is present.
  4. If it's not, do the following steps:
    1. Open NTA Flow Storage Configurator.
    2. Click OK to run it.
    3. After completion, run the Configuration Wizard against the Database. When it's completed, the Data should migrate to Flow Storage.

Nnote: This operation will continue to run in the background until completion.
