Device-side performance impact of exporting flow data

Table of contents

Updated May 11, 2017

Overview

Generally, we do not receive many reports that flow data export has an impact on the performance of network devices. Due to the number of vendors and models of flow-capable network devices, we are unable to definitively state that there will be no performance impact on either the device or the network.

Environment

All Orion NTA versions

Detail

It is suggested to contact your device vendor and discuss if the type of flow data which will be exported, the method that will be used to process or send this data (ASIC vs. general CPU), and other factors will have an impact on the performance of the device or the network.
