Configuration wizard fails to open

Overview

When you run the Configuration Wizard, the wizard opens momentarily and closes or never opens. When you check the ConfigurationWizard.log file, the file contains the following error:

ERROR ProgramStarter - System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.

   at SolarWinds.ConfigurationWizard.Common.WebHelper.IIS7Configurator.FindSiteBinding(BindingCollection bindings, String findProtocol)

   at SolarWinds.ConfigurationWizard.Common.IISHelper.FindSite()
   at SolarWinds.ConfigurationWizard.Host.SettingsController.GetSettings(IHostInfo hostInfo)
   at SolarWinds.ConfigurationWizard.Host.ProgramStarter.Start(String[] args)

Environment

  • NPM 12.1 and later
  • Primary Orion Platform server and Additional Web Servers

Cause 

Website bindings are not set correctly for SSL.

Resolution

  1. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. Expand the left tree and select the SolarWinds NetPerfMon website.
  3. Click Bindings, select the website, and click Edit.
  4. In the Edit Site Binding dialog box, enter a name in the Host name field (if blank).
  5. Ensure that an SSL certificate is selected. 
  6. Click Close in the Site Bindings dialog box. 
  7. In the IIS Manager, click Restart to restart the website
  8. Run the Configuration Wizard again.
