Updated July 10, 2018

or

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): The conversion of a nvarchar data
type to a datetime data type has created a value out of range.

Environment

All Orion Platform products

Cause

This error is due to the way different languages represent and parse dates in SQL Server

If English is set as your default language, SQL Server expects dates in MM/DD/YYYY format. Other languages may expect a DD/MM/YYYY format. SQL Server generates this error when there is a mismatch between what is provided and what the SQL Server is expecting.

Resolution

  1. On your SQL database server, open SQL Server Management Studio.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > SQL Server Management Studio.
  3. Using sa credentials, log in to the SQL Server instance hosting your Orion database.
  4. Expand Security > Logins.
  5. Right-click the SolarWinds Orion user, and then click Properties.
  6. In the Select a page pane, click General.
  7. In the Default language field, select English.
  8. Click OK.
