Send SNMP traps to Orion when LEM detects an IP address not part of your network

Overview

How to receive snmp traps in Orion NPM when LEM detects an IP address that is not part of your network.

Environment

  • LEM 5.7 and newer
  • SolarWinds Orion NPM (All supported versions)

Steps

1. Create a whitelist group of Trusted IPs.

2. Configure the SNMP Action connector on the Appliance.

a. Go to Manage > Appliances.

b. Click the gear icon, next to your appliance.

c. Go to Tools/Connector.

d. Go to the SNMP active response, and create a new instance.

3. Go back to the rule. The destination host and rule are something you can specify in each action, that way you could send multiple traps to different places.

4. If you want to send to a fixed host each time, click Constants (on the left) and drag and drop a text constant over to the Destination Host, then click on the box with a pencil next to it to type in the value (IP address, generally).

  • NOTE: If a port is not specified, the default SNMP trap port will be used.

If you want to send SNMP traps to other systems from LEM, this MIB should provide more detail on the resulting traps.
