Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to send SNMP Trap Notifications from LEM.

Environment

Steps

1. Configure the SNMP Action connector on the Appliance. 

a. Go to Manage > Appliances.

b. Click the gear icon, next to your appliance.

c. Go to Tools/Connector.

d. Go to the SNMP active response, and create a new instance.

2. Creating a Custom rules to fire when SNMP trap events is detected.

  • Go to Build > Rules -> Click on  sign at top right to add a New Rule
  • Select the Event name that and add co-relation rules for Ex: as shown below, adjust the correlation time settings as per your needs.
  • Go to Actions tab at bottom left and drag and drop Send SNMP Trap Alert
  • Drag and Drop Text field from Constants tab on top left into Destination Host and Port and then enter the IP address and Port number of Traps Receiver Server as shown below.
  • Expand Generic Alert under Actions pane and select HostIncident or HybridIncident Or NetworkIncident and fill in the fields to as best as you can by dragging and dropping the fields from the EventName you have used in Correlation rule, it should look like this (it very important to not leave them blank)

3. If you want to send to a fixed host each time, click Constants (on the left) and drag and drop a text constant over to the Destination Host, then click on the box with a pencil next to it to type in the value (IP address, generally).

Note: If a port is not specified, the default SNMP trap port will be used. 

4. Click on Save and Activate Rules.

5. Go to Orion Server web console or Traps Viewer to view the Traps or your third part application if you are not using Solarwinds NPM

 

If you want to send SNMP traps to other systems from LEM, this MIB should provide more detail on the resulting traps.
