After you configure your syslog device to send events to LEM and verify that LEM is receiving the events, add the syslog device to LEM.

When you add a syslog device to LEM, select a connector that is specific to the network device you are adding. The connector normalizes the log data into a standard format that can be compared with logs received from other vendors' devices. LEM ships with hundreds of connectors. See LEM Connector List for a list of supported connectors.

This following example show you how to add a Cisco ASA firewall to LEM. See Integrate Cisco network devices with SolarWinds LEM for more information on adding Cisco devices to LEM.

  1. Log in to the LEM Console, and click Manage > Appliances.
  2. Click the gear icon, and click Connectors.

  3. Filter the list to include only Cisco connectors.
  4. Next to the Cisco PIX and IOS firewall, click New to add a Cisco IOS connector.

  5. Enter the connection parameters, and click Save.

The Alias is a friendly name for this device. Specify the log file (for example, /var/log/local4.log) in LEM receiving the log data, as specified by the syslog device.

  6. Click the gear on the left of the connector, and click Start to start the connector.

You have successfully added the connector when you see a message on the Appliances page that LEM has detected new nodes.
