Use an SSH client to connect to your LEM Appliance

Overview

In addition to accessing your SolarWinds LEM Virtual Appliance using the virtual console in your VM client, you can also access your LEM Appliance using a Secure Shell (SSH) client. This provides access to the command-line interface for the LEM Appliance over a secure, non-standard SSH port.

Requirements

  • SSH client - You can use any SSH client to connect to your LEM Appliance. PuTTY is used in the following procedure because it is one of the most widely used SSH clients. It can be downloaded for free from the PuTTY Download Page.
  • Network access to the LEM Appliance over port 32022 from the computer you will connect from

Environment

All current versions of LEM

Steps

  1. Open PuTTY.
  2. Enter the IP address or hostname of your LEM Appliance in the allotted field.
  3. Enter 32022 or 22 in the Port field (if LEM version is 6.2.1 or earlier, only port 32022 is open).
Note: To save this information for future use, click Save under Load, save or delete a stored session. In future sessions, select your saved session and click Load to complete the fields noted above.
  4. Click Open. This will establish a secure connection with your LEM Appliance, and you will see its command-line interface.
You can now log in to your appliance to perform a variety of functions on your LEM manager and database.
    Notes:
    • The user account to make changes or view data in the LEM Appliance is cmc and the password you set after activating your LEM license.
    • If you are evaluating LEM, the default password is password.
