SNMP alert monitoring LEM

Table of contents

Overview

This article discusses using SNMP to monitor LEM status, disk usage, and so on with the Orion Web Console.

Environment

  • All LEM versions
  • SNMP collector or Orion

Detail

SNMP support was added to LEM in version 6.3.0. The service menu in the CMC command-line interface now includes the snmp command to enable the SNMP Request Service on the LEM appliance. You can configure SNMP version 3 on your LEM appliance to communicate with SolarWinds Network Performance Manager (NPM) through ports 161 and 162. This configuration allows you to monitor CPU, memory, and other critical components from the SolarWinds Orion Web Console.

LEM versions older than version 6.3.0 do not support SNMP monitoring. Older versions of LEM can be used to send SNMP trap alerts to other devices when rules fire, but they do not support sending any health or status updates over SNMP.

For information on configuring this function, see Monitor LEM from NPM and the Orion Web Console using SNMP.
