Reports Console Manager server connection test fails

Updated MArch 6, 2017

Overview

What to do when setting up the Reports Console Manager for the first time and you get a failed ping test.

Environment

All LEM Reports Console Manager versions

Detail

When first starting the LEM Reports Console, it will ask you to input a Manager. This would be either the hostname or IP address for your LEM. After putting in your log in credentials press the Test Connection button. This will send a TCP ping to the LEM. Most networks will block anything but a full ICMP ping to devices as other types of ping packets can be used for nefarious purposes.

If the ping test comes back failed:

  1. Make sure your log in credentials are correct by re-inputting them and trying again.
  2. Press the Green Plus button right next tot he Manager Name box.
  3. In the main reports window, scroll down until you reach Database Maintenance Report.
  4. Select and run the Database Maintenance Report:
    1. This report can take a while to run but if it runs for longer than 1 minute without error your credentials are correct and your Reports console is set up correctly.
    2. Otherwise you will get a Database Vendor Code.
    3. Follow the instructions in this kb article to resolve those issues.
