MSSQL Auditor error: Verify that the user has the proper credentials to do database auditing

Overview

The MSSQL Auditor does not start and displays the following error:

Unable to start MSSQLAuditor. Verify that the user has the proper credentials to do database auditing by using the Auditorconfig Test button.

This is the "test" button for the MSSQL Auditor application.

To avoid the error, be sure the account has the permissions to access the SQL database, and the logon-as-a-service right. The default SYSTEM account will have the "logon-as-a-service right", but may lack the permission to access the SQL database. You can create a new SA account (local or domain level) to access the database, but be sure to give the account the "logon-as-a-service right".

Environment

All LEM versions

Cause

This is a Windows permissions (& rights) issue.

Resolution

Verify that the user account has been granted the Logon as a service right on the server where MSSQL Auditor is installed. Refer to Add the Logon as a service right to an account.
