Increase the virtual CPUs in VMWare

Table of contents

Updated August 16, 2016

LEM may sometimes require more than  8 CPUs to handle the volume of traffic sent to it. In VMWare, the current hardware version of our OVA is at version 7 which is limited to 8 virtual CPUs. Hardware version 8 supports up to 32 virtual CPUs.

  • All LEM versions
  • VMWare 5.x and up

Note: It is recommended to have existing backups or take a snapshot before performing the hardware version upgrade

  1. Shutdown the LEM:
    1. Login to the LEM over ssh on port 32022 with the cmc credentials or select Advanced Configuration on the virtual console.
    2. Enter appliance.
    3. Enter shutdown.
    4. Follow the prompts to shutdown the LEM.
  2. In VMWare, right click on the VM entry for the LEM in the tree in Hosts and Clusters.
  3. Select Upgrade Virtual Hardware.
  4. Follow the prompts to upgrade to at least version 8.
  5. Start the LEM.
