Include the LEM Agent in a Windows image

Table of contents

To create a Windows image that includes the LEM Agent, use the following steps so that the computers you deploy using the image can connect successfully to the LEM Manager.

All LEM versions

Important: Do not restart the computer during the setup procedure. If you have to restart the computer, complete Steps 3 and 4 before you proceed.

  1. Install the LEM Agent on the computer you will use to create the image and verify that it connects to your LEM Manager.
  2. If you want to include the LEM Agents associated with this image in a Tool Profile, add the LEM Agent to the appropriate Tool Profile. For more information about using Tool Profiles, see How to create Tool Profiles to manage and monitor LEM Agents.
  3. Stop the SolarWinds Log and Event Manager Agent service.
  4. Delete the spop folder:
    • In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003:
    • In Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008:
  5. Image the computer.
  6. Remove the original computer from your LEM Manager:
    1. Open your LEM Console and connect to your LEM Manager.
    2. Click the Manage tab, and then select Nodes.
    3. Locate the LEM Agent in the list. Use the Refine Results pane if necessary.
    4. Click the gear icon, next to the LEM Agent, and then click Delete.

After you deploy the image, verify that the LEM Agents on the new computers connect to your LEM Manager in the Manage > Nodes view.
