Configure Cisco IOS devices to identify as node names instead of IP addresses

Table of contents

Updated June 15, 2018

Overview

This article describes how to configure a Cisco IOS-based device so its node name displays in its events.

This will cause the name to be reflected under the Node Name field in the Nodes page and DetectionIP field in all events from this device.

Environment

  • LEM all versions
  • Cisco® IOS-based network devices

Steps

  1. Connect to your Cisco device using SSH.
  2. Run the following command in the prompt:
    logging origin-id hostname
  3. Commit the change and close the session.
  4. Install and configure a custom Cisco IOS connector that can parse these node names. Contact SolarWinds Support for assistance.
