Failed to retrieve data from the database. error code: -2147189166

Updated February 14, 2017

Overview

In LEM 6.3.1 and later,  the following error displays when running any report from the Reports console:

Failed to retrieve data from the database.

Details: [Database Vendor Code: -466]

Error Code: -2147189166

Environment

LEM 6.3.1 and later

Cause

This is caused by a TLS connection failure between the Reports Console and LEM.

Resolution

There are two ways to address this error, by disabling TLS or by making sure that the correct certificate is in use.

To disable TLS (also useful to verify the issue is related to TLS and the certificate):

  1. Log into the cmc either by connecting over SSH to port 32022 or through the hypervisor's console
  2. Type
    • manager
    • disabletls

To recreate the TLS certificate:

  1. Disable and re-enable TLS on the manager.
  2. Re-import the certificate into the Reports console.
