Messages are truncating at 255 characters in MSSQL database

Table of contents

Updated March 11th, 2016

Issue:

Truncating messages at 255 characters in MSSQL database.

Cause:

When messages are logged to SQL database and exceed 255 characters, Microsoft SQL Query Anaylzer, when used, does not properly view the table data.

Resolution:

In Kiwi Syslog Daemon, when  logging syslog messages to an MS SQL database,  the msgtext field  is created  with a field length of 1024 by default.

You will need to adjust the default settings of this application. Do this by going to the Tools | Options menu of the SQL Query Analyzer, press Results tab to find a setting that relates to the maximum number of characters per column. This column setting by default, is set to 256 character
