Use a UDL file to create connection string

Overview

This article aims to help troubleshoot and build a connection string for the Log to Database action.

Environment

  • All versions of Kiwi Syslog Server
  • All versions of Windows
  • All versions of MS SQL and MySQL

Steps

 

  1. Create the following file:
    • C:\test.udl
  2.   Run the following command to run the UDL in 32-bit Mode:
    • C:\Windows\syswow64\rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\System\Ole DB\oledb32.dll",OpenDSLFile C:\test.udl
  3. Configure the UDL to use the needed Provider and Connection settings.
    • Note: For Oracle servers, set the Data Source field to one of the following:
    • (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST={Server_Name})(PORT={Port}))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME={SID})))
    • {Server_Name}:{Port}/{SID}
    • Note: Replace {Server_Name}, {Port} and {SID} with actual values.
  4.  Uncheck the option for Blank Password and check the option to Allow Saving Password.
  5.  Click Test Connection.
  6.  Assuming the test is successful, click OK and open C:\test.udl in notepad.
  7.  Copy the connection string in this file to the Log to Database Action.
