Kiwi Web Access install error: The error code is 2738

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following Kiwi Web Access installation error:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2738.


  • All Kiwi Syslog Server versions 
  • All Windows versions


The installer is attempting to call a VBRuntime property but VBRuntime is not found.


  1. Verify the issue by running the Kiwi Web Access installer with logging enabled:
    1. Open an elevated CMD window. 
    2. Go to the following directory:
      • \program files (x86)\syslogd\setup\
    3. Run the following command:
      • kiwisyslogwebaccess_{version}_setup.exe /log c:\kiwiwebinstall.log
      • Note: Replace {version} with latest version available.
    4. Once you receive the error, open c:\kiwiwebinstall.log. The error is similar to  
      • Could not access vbscript runtime for custom action
  2. Fix the issue:
    1. Download and install Visual Basic Runtime 6 SP6 from the following location:
    2. Register vbruntime.dll by running the following command from an elevated CMD window:
      • Windows 32-bit: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\vbruntime.dll
      • Windows 64-bit: regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\\vbruntime.dll
    3. Check the following registry key to ensure that the VBScript.dll is still the default VB Script interpreter:
      • HKCR\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32
