Kiwi Syslog Web Access Server error: System.Web.HttpUnhandledException

Overview

After upgrading to version 9.4.1, you might receive the following error on Kiwi Syslog Web Access:

Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown.

Status Code: 500


System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at _Event.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e)

Environment

Kiwi Syslog version 9.4.1

Cause

The error occurs due to the conflict between the old and new versions of the web server.

Resolution

  1. Stop the Kiwi Syslog Server service using the following link: How to Start/Stop Kiwi Syslog Services.
  2. Open the directory:
    \Program Files(X86)\Solarwinds\Kiwi Syslog Web Access\html\App_Data\
  3. Move the current *.sdf file (Event.sdf) all older *.sdf files that are saved with the Event#.sdf naming convention (Event1.sdf,Event2.sdf...) to an alternate location.
  4. Right-click and copy event-blank.sdf.
  5. Rename the copy to: event.sdf
  6. Do not rename the original event.blank leave this file in the folder.
  7. Re-start the Kiwi Syslog Server service.
