Kiwi Syslog Web Access Server error: System.Web.HttpUnhandledException

Overview

After upgrading to version 9.4.1, you might receive the following error on Kiwi Syslog Web Access:

Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown.

Status Code: 500


System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at _Event.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e)

Environment

Kiwi Syslog version 9.4.1

Cause

The error occurs due to the conflict between the old and new versions of the web-server.

Resolution

  1. Stop the Kiwi Syslog Server service -  How to Start/Stop Kiwi Syslog Services.
  2. Open the directory:
    \Program Files(X86)\Solarwinds\Kiwi Syslog Web Access\html\App_Data\
  3. Move the current *.sdf file (Event.sdf) all older *.sdf files that are saved with Event#.sdf naming convention (Event1.sdf,Event2.sdf...) to an alternate location.
  4. Right-click and copy event-blank.sdf
  5. Rename the copy to event.sdf
  6. Do not rename the original event.blank leave this file in the folder.
  7. Start the Kiwi Syslog Server service.
