High volume of syslogs to MSQL database

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when there is a large volume of syslogs to MSQL database.

Environment

Kiwi Syslog version 9.4

Cause 

The issue is caused when there are multiple rules all writing to the database and the database cache filling up and causing a loss of syslogs.

Resolution

Database Logger - Disable Database Cache

 

  1. Open regedit.
  2. Go to:
  • for 32bit PC:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolarWinds\Syslogd\Properties
  • for 64bit PC:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SolarWinds\Syslogd\Properties
  1. Add (Right-click > New > String Value) or Edit the following key:
    Value (STRING): DBLoggerCacheDisable
  2. Set the value to 1 (to disable).
