Overview

SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server version 9.5 Hotfix 2

This HotFix addresses the following issues:

  • Memory leak issue in Kiwi Syslog Server.
  • Kiwi Syslog Server is crashing randomly on some systems while parsing the received message "Type Mismatch error".

 

Notes:

  • This Hotfix requires SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server v9.5.
  • This is a cumulative fix that also addresses an issue covered by HotFix 1 that resolves UAC prompt error.

 

Warning: SolarWinds strongly recommends that you only edit the necessary files as instructed. Any additional modifications to the files may result in system performance issues or may create an error state.

Environment

Kiwi Syslog Server v9.5.0

Steps

To install this HotFix:
  1. Log on to the Kiwi Syslog Server host as an Administrator.
  2. Check if KSS is installed as Service or as Application.

 

If Kiwi Syslog Server is installed as Service, do the following steps:

  1. Stop the Kiwi Syslog Server service.
  2. Close the Kiwi Syslog Server console.
  3. Back up the following files:
    \syslogd\syslogd_service.exe
    \syslogd\syslogd_Manager.exe
  4. Extract syslogd_service.exe and syslogd_Manager.exe from the Hotfix zip file to the \syslogd\ directory, replacing the current files.
  5. Start the Kiwi Syslog Server service.

 

If Kiwi Syslog Server is installed as Application:

  1. Close the Kiwi Syslog Server Console.
  2. Backup the following file:
    \syslogd\syslogd.exe
  3. Extract syslogd.exe from the Hotfix zip file to the \syslogd\ directory, replacing the current file.


After successfully installing this fix, memory leak, random crashing and UAC prompt issues are now excepted to be resolved.

To Rollback the Hotfix:

For Kiwi Syslog Server as Service:

  1. Stop the Kiwi Syslog Server service and close the Kiwi Syslog Server Console.
  2. Restore syslogd_service.exe and Syslogd_Manager.exe from the backup file to \syslogd\.
  3. Start the Kiwi Syslog Server service.

 

For Kiwi syslog Server as Application:

  1. Close the Kiwi Syslog Server Console.
  2. Restore syslogd.exe from the backup file to \syslogd\.
