Kiwi CatTools Config backup file is missing data

Overview

The current config backup file created by Kiwi CatTools for a specific device only contains a portion of the configuration information.

Environment

All Kiwi CatTools versions

Cause

This occurs due to the presence of the device's prompt in the configuration output.  As a result, CatTools sees this prompt and assumes that the complete configuration data precedes this prompt.

Resolution

  1. Open the Kiwi CatTools Manager.
  2. Click File > Enable Capture Mode.
  3. Run the Activity in question until it finishes.
  4. Open the device's debug file in \CatTools\Debug\
  5. Scroll-down to the bottom of the file and note the value for the following:
    • <PROMPT VTY=
    • <PROMPT ENABLE=
    • <PROMPT CONFIG=
  6. Search for these values within the running config output above and note if it is the VTY prompt value, the Enable prompt value or the Config prompt value.
  7. Go back to the CatTools Manager and open the Device's settings.
  8. On the Variations tab, cllick Use Variations.
  9. On the Full Prompts tab, select the box for the noted prompt and assign a value that will match the actual prompt but will not match what is found in the running config output.  If this prompt does not show as an actual prompt, set the Variation to a value that will never been seen, such as asdf>.
  10. Click Save and then OK.
  11. Run the Device.Backup.Running Config Activity and verify that the resulting config file is complete.
