WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Unable to update DNS and DHCP without Admin rights on Orion

Overview

For an added Orion User with Custom role but no Orion Admin nor Node Management rights, the user is not able to add DNS record for an IP Address, which he has Power User permissions on for some subnets. The "Add DNS Record" button is disabled.

If Orion Admin rights is added to this account, user can then add a DNS record.

Environment

All IPAM versions

Cause

When using Custom role, DHCP and DNS permissions depend on Global account setting. If you are using Custom role permissions, the account must have Administrator rights to be able to update DHCP and DNS.

Resolution

Set the following permissions in order to modify DHCP and DNS:

  1. "Admin" rights within IPAM.
  2. "Power User" rights within IPAM.
  3. "Custom" rights within IPAM and "Administrator" rights within Orion.
