IPAM is slow when returning search results.

All IPAM versions

Check the diagnostics if there are issues that needs to be addressed:

Orion server

  • Confirm that it is not running on an unsupported OS. The only Server 2003 variations supported are Windows Server 2003 SP2 and 2003 R2 SP2. Other versions are not supported.
  • Confirm that you are using a 32-bit server that has 12GB RAM. By default only ~3.3GB of RAM is accessible in 32-bit server unless using PAE. SolarWinds does not support PAE. This means that you are effectively using almost all of the RAM on the server (~90%)
  • It is recommended that IPAM be moved to a more suitable server. Such as, a 64-bit server with 6-8GB RAM, 4 x 3GHz CPU. It is also recommended to use Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

SQL server

  • Confirm that the SQL server is not out of memory. You may need to increase the memory in the server, cap the memory available to SQL or both. SQL by its nature will consume a lot of memory.
  • Check for long running queries and SQL connection errors in the logs. These are indicative of SQL performance issues.
  • Seek assistance from your DBA to look into the SQL performance issues.
