Neighbor Scanning on Cisco ASA Firewall does not work

Updated October 20, 2017

Neighbor Scanning on Cisco ASA firewalls does not work.

  • IPAM 4.5.2 and earlier

The Cisco ASA firewall does not support the required OIDs.

IPAM first checks if the device is capable of SNMP and supports ARP table:
To check whether SNMP is available IPAM uses these OIDs:
    • SysContact                 ""

To check whether the ARP table is available:
    • IPNetToMediaTable          ""

The IPNetToMediaTable is pulled for client information. If the device supports this table, then IPAM can work with it.

IPNetToMediaTable is not present on the ASA.
