Overview

ISSUE:

Not Seeing MAC for Some Used IP Addresses

Environment

  • All IPAM versions

Cause

IP Addresses only monitored via ICMP

Resolution

There are a number of options

  1. Monitor IP Addresses via SNMP [The target device must have SNMP Enabled]
  2. Neighbor Scanning [Scan neighbor layer 3 device for IP Address to MAC information] More info here
  3. Get the MAC information from DHCP
