IPAM integration with VMware vRealize Automation (vRA)/Orchestrator(vRO)

Updated: December 4, 2017

As of version 4.6, IP Address Manager integrates with VMware vRealize Orchestrator. Orchestrator is a workflow tool that automates tasks in a VMware vSphere infrastructure. Integrating IPAM and Orchestrator allows you to:

  • Quickly provision VMs on-demand
  • Simplify IP address management across VMs
  • Automate virtual machine IP address provisioning
  • Automate virtual machine DNS record tracking

Supported Actions

Run or script over a dozen different IPAM actions in vRealize Orchestrator, including:

  • Get the first available IP address
  • Cancel an IP address reservation
  • Start an IP address reservation
  • Finish an IP address reservation
  • Create an IP address reservation on a DHCP server
  • Remove an IP address reservation from a DHCP server
  • Create a new subnet
  • Add a DNS 'A' record for an IP address
  • Change a DNS 'A' record for an IP address
  • Remove a DNS 'A' record for an IP address
  • Add a PTR to a DNS 'A' record
  • Get an 'A' record and a PTR record for a DNS zone
  • Add an 'A' record with an associated PTR for a zone
  • Change IP Node status
  • Create a custom property
  • Update a custom property
  • Reorder custom properties
  • Delete a custom property

Adding IPAM support to vRealize Orchestrator

Adding IPAM support to vRealize Orchestrator is an easy two-step process:

  1. Import the VMO package for IPAM (com.solarwinds.ipam.package) into vRealize Orchestrator.
  2. Run the "Add IPAM host" workflow. The workflow prompts you to enter host properties, proxy settings, and authentication details.

For details, see the IP Address Manager Administrator's Guide.

IP Address Manager 4.6 is compatible with the following VMware products:

  • vCenter Server 6.5
  • vRealize Orchestrator 7.2
  • vRealize Automation 7.2
